The Dubai Balloon is a tethered helium balloon not a free-flying hot air balloon. It is anchored to the ground and ascends vertically on a cable to 300 meters, hovers for several minutes, and descends back to the launch platform. The gondola is large and stable up to 30 passengers at a time which makes it far less daunting than the word "balloon" suggests. There are safety rails around the gondola and the ascent and descent are smooth and controlled. Once at 300 meters, you can walk around the full interior, take photos in every direction, and look straight down at the Palm Jumeirah below.
