Most visitors to Dubai see the towers. Fewer see what came before them. The Old Dubai City Tour takes you into the neighbourhoods, markets, and waterways that made Dubai a trading hub long before the skyline existed and that still run on the same energy today.
This is a private, guided tour covering Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, Dubai Creek, Deira Gold Souk, Spice Souk, and the heritage districts along the waterfront. No shared buses, no walking group you have to keep pace with. Your guide, your vehicle, your four hours in one of the most underrated parts of any city in the world.

Seven distinct areas — each with its own character, its own story, and its own pace. Your guide walks you through each one.
Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood (Bastakiya)
One of the oldest surviving residential areas in Dubai. The narrow sand-coloured lanes, wind towers, and coral-and-gypsum buildings here date to the late 1800s when Persian and Indian merchants settled along the creek. The wind towers rising above the rooftops were the original air conditioning pulling cooler air down into the rooms below and pushing hot air out. The whole district is a working answer to the question of what Dubai looked like before the concrete and glass arrived.
The Dubai Museum is located here inside Al Fahidi Fort, the oldest standing building in Dubai. Your guide will walk you through the fort's exterior and the surrounding neighbourhood in full context.
Old Textile Souk (Meena Bazaar)
A few streets from Al Fahidi, the Old Textile Souk also called Meena Bazaar runs along the Bur Dubai waterfront. Fabric stalls, pashminas, colourful cotton, embroidered cloth, and traditional Emirati dress material line the covered alleyways. One of the oldest functioning markets in the city, still serving the same communities it has for over a century.
Dubai Creek Abra Ride
Dubai Creek is the waterway that created the city. Without the creek, there was no Dubai; it was the natural harbour that made trade possible, and the communities that grew up on either bank (Bur Dubai to the south, Deira to the north) were the original city.
Crossing by abra a traditional wooden flat-bottomed boat is one of the oldest modes of transport still running in Dubai. The crossing takes three minutes and costs next to nothing. It has been running continuously for well over a century. Your guide joins you on the crossing.
Deira Spice Souk
On the Deira side of the creek, the Spice Souk fills a covered market district with the smell of saffron, frankincense, dried rose petals, cardamom, turmeric, dried limes, and incense. Merchants from India, Iran, and across the Arab world have traded here for generations. Your guide will walk you through it, name what you are smelling before you ask, and steer you past the tourist-facing stalls toward the ones worth stopping at.
Deira Gold Souk
One of the largest gold markets in the world and one of the most visually extraordinary streets in the Middle East. Over 300 jewellers operate under the covered arcade, their window displays piled with necklaces, bangles, rings, and pieces by weight. The scale and concentration of gold on display is unlike anything in most visitors' experience. Whether you are buying or just looking, it is worth an hour of anyone's time.
Al Seef Waterfront
A restored heritage district running along the Bur Dubai side of the creek. Old-style buildings reconstructed to the original architectural style, waterfront promenade, cafés, and galleries looking out across the creek toward Deira. One of the better places in Dubai to sit and take stock of where you are.
Shindagha Heritage Area
At the mouth of the creek, Shindagha is the oldest residential district in Dubai, a cluster of traditional Emirati houses and restored heritage museums covering pearling history, traditional medicine, and Emirati domestic life before oil. A quieter end to the tour than the Souks, and one of the most genuinely informative areas in the city for understanding what everyday life looked like here 100 years ago.

Best Time for the Old Dubai City Tour
Morning (9:00 AM – 1:00 PM) October to April. Cooler temperatures make the outdoor sections of the tour the creek walk, the souk alleys, the Al Seef promenade genuinely pleasant. The souks are active from early morning and the light on the creek in the morning is excellent for photography.
Late Afternoon (3:00 PM – 7:00 PM) As the day cools, the souks come alive with the most activity. The Gold Souk lights up in the early evening and the creek at dusk is one of the more memorable views in the city.
Avoid: Midday from May to September the outdoor sections become uncomfortable in extreme heat. Morning or late afternoon slots are the better choice year-round.
